Renumbering of Library Study Rooms

March 22, 2007

In order to meet compatibility requirements with campus room/office numbering and to allow for room naming, all of the group study rooms in the library and 8:10 Cafe’ are being renumbered. We have decided to go with an alpha-numeric system in order to maintain what will hopefully be a logical set of identifiers in the room reservation system.

On the first floor, the study areas fall under number 148. Former study room 1 is now 148A; room 2 is now 148B and so on. The 2nd floor study area is now designated all number 232, with former room 6 now being 232A. Numbering runs through 232T (former room 21). 8:10 Cafe’ rooms will now be 810A, 810B and 810C.

These changes will soon be reflected in the study room reservation system, so we wanted to alert everyone ahead of time. In order to minimize confusion during the transition period, we will leave the temporary paper signs with the original room numbers up for a few days. If you have questions, please see any library staff member at the public service desk near the front door.

Cell Phone Courtesy

March 14, 2007

As summer and the end of the school year approaches, so does the increasing need to talk with internship recruiters and future employers. We are aware how important this is for you and want to see you happily employed!  But please remember that while you are in the library, be considerate of your colleagues in regards to using and answering your calls. We encourage you to set your cell phones to vibrate or silent, and to initiate and take calls outside the library as a courtesy.

Daylight Savings is Disruptive to Some Library Resources

March 7, 2007

The 2005 Energy Policy Act, which moves Daylight Saving Time forward by about three weeks to March 11, is unfortunately causing mayhem to many computer systems and Outlook calendars across the US.  The change in DST will not only be affecting your Outlook calendars, but it potentially will be affecting access to many of the library’s resources.

For example, ScienceDirect will be unavailable for a planned period of downtime on Sunday, March 11, 2007 for approximately 7 hours starting at midnight.  This is to adjust the system to take account the change to DST. There potentially will be other downtimes of many of our resources.
We hope that by providing this advance notice we can help minimize any inconvenience to you.  If you have any questions about this or are continuing to have difficulty accessing library databases, please let us know by emailing asklibrarians@owen.vanderbilt.edu.

Thank you for your continued patience.
